Introducing Žana Tomašič - The new intern
Hi everyone! My name is Žana Tomašič and I’m the new intern at BR-ND people. Let me briefly introduce myself.
I come from Slovenia but I actually haven’t lived there in 6 years. When I was 18 I decided I want to experience more so I packed my bags and moved to Finland! I worked there as an au pair for a year, and quickly realised that working with kids is not for me. So I started searching for various universities all around the world. I already knew I wanted to study psychology so my search was a bit less extensive.
So after Finland, I moved to the Netherlands and have been living here for almost 5 years. I finished my bachelor in Psychology and am now I’m finishing my master in Economic and Consumer Psychology at Leiden University. The only thing I have left is an internship, and lucky for me I found an amazing and super welcoming company BR-ND People! I knew the company will fit me perfectly as soon as they asked me to join in a 50 push-up challenge during the first get together with them. They’re also all about change and making the world a better place and most importantly they do it through branding.
I only found my love for advertising and branding psychology in my last year of my bachelor programme. People are subjected to various psychological effects on a daily basis without even realising it and advertising agencies are well aware of that and can even take advantage of it. That is why the internship at BR-ND is so important to me. They understand how brands function and help increase awareness of those brands that positively impact the world. They don’t only think about profit but try to balance it with purpose.
Besides my study interest I am also a very sporty person. Swimming, for example, has been a part of me my whole life, and lately I have also found passion for fitness. Since I’m not swimming as much as I used to, that doesn’t mean I spend any time less in a pool. I have been a swimming instructor for the past few years and absolutely living every minute of it. I’m also a very energetic and social person who can talk for hours straight (I guess you could call me an extrovert). I’m a team player but can sometimes get a bit (too) competitive (I suggest that we never play monopoly together).
To find some inspirations what to write in this little introduction piece about myself, I checked what other previous interns wrote. I noticed every one of them wrote either a quote or something that drives them. So I’ll follow the ‘tradition’. The quote I like to think of when things are not going my way is (drumroll please): Vse bo v redu. The original quote is obviously Slovenian since my dad said it to me and my sisters. So when I think of it I actually hear my dad saying it to me. But what it means is: Everything will be alright. It’s a very comforting saying when I feel down and it helps me think about the future and how it always works out in the end.
But to finish I just want to say how excited I am to be a part of this team and can’t wait to see what challenges lie ahead!
